The clock is ticking for the Tampa Bay Lightning to re-sign Steven Stamkos. They have until July 1 to get him his new deal, or he will get the chance to test the free-agent market. Thankfully, there is still plenty of hope that they will come to terms on a new contract, as both parties have clear mutual interest in keeping their relationship going.

However, if Stamkos becomes a free agent, he will be one of the NHL's hottest commodities, as he is still a legitimate star at this juncture of his career. But which teams would be the absolute worst for the Lightning to lose Stamkos to? Let's discuss three nightmare landing spots for Stamkos now.

    Boston Bruins

If Stamkos hits the market, it would not be surprising if the Boston Bruins were among the clubs interested. Their primary goal heading into the offseason is to add a first-line center, so a star like Stamkos is surely somebody they would love to have. They also have over $20 million of cap space entering the offseason, so they could give Stamkos the kind of deal he would be looking for.

Yet, it would be awful for the Lightning if Stamkos landed on the Bruins. The Bruins have been one of the top clubs in the Atlantic Division for several years now, and they would only get better by adding No. 91. The Lightning and Bruins have also had some heated battles over the years.

    Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been interested in Stamkos in the past. After another first-round exit, it is clear that they could use a star who not only provides plenty of offense but also has experience winning. Stamkos, of course, has captained the Lightning to two Stanley Cups. In addition, with the Leafs preparing for a potential roster shake-up, perhaps targeting Stamkos again is an avenue they would explore again.

The Maple Leafs have become one of the Lightning's biggest rivals over the years, so seeing Stamkos playing for the other blue and white club would be tough on the eyes. It also doesn't help that the Lightning and Leafs are always close in the standings.

    Florida Panthers

The Florida Panthers would be the worst Stamkos landing spot for the Lightning. Due to the Battle of the Sunshine State, the Panthers are easily the Lightning's biggest rivals. These clubs hate each other, and it would be a tragedy for Lightning fans to see Stamkos rocking navy blue, red, and tan.

However, if the Panthers lose multiple notable free agents and Stamkos hits the market, it wouldn't be shocking if they kicked tires on him. He would be a great addition to an already outstanding team.
