Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tanner Jeannot is the club's top trade target this offseason. With the Lightning having just over $5 million of cap space and Steven Stamkos needing his next deal, they need to move out some money. Thus, Jeannot and his $2.665 million cap hit could be made expendable.
Jeannot has been creating some trade chatter around the NHL, as teams like the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, and New Jersey Devils have come up as potential landing spots for him. Yet, now two more clubs are being viewed as potential suitors for the gritty winger.
Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Star recently wrote that he believes a young club like the San Jose Sharks or Chicago Blackhawks could target Jeannot this offseason. Kypreos also argued that it would make more sense for a rebuilding club like these two to take a shot on him, as he would get the chance to play more significant minutes.
Jeannot, 27, could thrive on a team with less forward like depth like Chicago or San Jose. Keep in mind, when he was with the Nashville Predators as a rookie in 2021-22, he was a big-time offensive contributor, posting 24 goals and 41 points.
Jeannot could also be useful for one of these clubs to add because they each have young stars who could use more protection. Jeannot is known for being tough as nails and playing a very physical game, so he would be an excellent option for them in this aspect.
