TAMPA — At least two Lightning players will participate in next season’s 4 Nations Faceoff.
Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman (Sweden) and center Brayden Point (Canada) were among the players announced Friday for the tournament, which will replace the upcoming season’s NHL All-Star Game. The international showcase features teams from the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland.
The event set for Feb. 12-20 in Montreal and Boston also will serve as a preview for the 2026 Italy Winter Olympics, which will feature NHL players.
Lightning coach Jon Cooper was named the coach for Team Canada earlier this week. The remaining rosters for 4 Nations will be announced later in the year.
Hedman recently competed in this year’s World Championships, winning a bronze medal in his fourth time representing Sweden. Hedman has played in a total of 37 World Championships games, scoring four goals and 11 assists with a plus-18, winning a gold medal in 2017 and another bronze in 2010.
He also represented Sweden in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and the under-20 and under-18 worlds.
Point, too, has been a frequent international hockey standout, scoring four goals with an assist in 10 games for Canada’s silver-medal World Championships team in 2017. He also represented Canada in the U18 and U20 worlds.
