Play disc golf at this Gem of Tampa Bay

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you want to get out and get active this summer, try learning how to play disc golf.

One of the best locations to practice is Picnic Island Disc Golf Course in Tampa.

“You can see the St. Pete skyline from the basket,” Disc Golf Player David Herrera said. “You can’t beat these views.”

Herrera said he began playing while he was a high school student in Illinois. Now this gem is one of his favorites.

Disc Golf is similar to traditional golf, except players do not use clubs or a ball.

“Instead, it’s with a frisbee,” Herrera explained. “The frisbee is pretty much the ball and the club.”

The objective of the game is to get the disc into the basket in the fewest throws as possible.

The Picnic Island Disc Golf Course currently has 36 baskets that players can aim at from different tee pads.

The Picnic Island Disc Golf Course is located at 7409 Picnic Island Boulevard in Tampa and is open from sunrise to sunset.
