Tampa Bay Lightning Could Trade Veteran Forward

The Tampa Bay Lightning have made several moves this offseason, and their roster looks quite different because of it. However, when looking at their group, it’s clear that they would benefit by adding one more top-six winger to their roster before the start of the season.

The Lightning have some cap space to work with, but they also still need to sign newcomer J.J. Moser, who is a restricted free agent, to his next deal. As a result of this, the Lightning will likely need to move out a little more money if they hope to land a top-six winger as well.

Because of this, one player who the Lightning could end up moving before the season is winger Conor Sheary.

Sheary, 32, is coming off a rough first season as a Bolt, recording four goals, 11 assists, and a minus-3 rating in 57 games. He also notably fell down the Lightning’s depth chart as the year went on and did not touch the ice once during the playoffs.

After struggling to find a fit with the Lightning, Sheary being moved would not be particularly surprising. He has a $2 million cap hit until the end of the 2025-26 season, so they would get some cap space back if they traded him.

It will be intriguing to see what the Lightning decide to do with Sheary from here. His past success could lead to a team being willing to take a shot on him. If he stays put, he will look to bounce back in his second year with the Lightning.
