TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Several witnesses reacted to the shooting at a Pennsylvania Trump rally that left the gunman and an attendee dead, and several injured, including the former president.

One Trump supporter, Diana Mellish, who was at the event, recounted the scene, saying she had an anxious feeling.

“It just didn’t feel right,” Mellish said.

She told the reporter she had left roughly 30 minutes prior to the shooting. She stood and waited outside the hospital Trump was in, just “hoping that he’s ok, just praying for everybody.”

Another supporter, Scott Smith, said he didn’t understand how someone could do this.

“I can’t believe people would do something like this,” Smith said. “That people have so much hate that they would do something like this.”

A counter-protestor, who planned to attend the rally to protest Donald Trump, stood outside Butler Memorial Hospital.

The woman, Ash Nix, told a reporter that her husband asked her to not attend because he feared violence.

She held a sign outside the facility that read: “Wishing Trump a long terrible recovery! Tots and pears!”

According to the Associated Press, Trump was showing off a chart of border crossing numbers when bangs started ringing through the crowd. As the first pop rang out, Trump said, “Oh,” and grabbed his ear as two more pops could be heard.

On Saturday evening, Trump confirmed being shot in the ear. The incident is now being investigated as an assassination attempt.
