Martinis are suddenly everywhere in Tampa Bay. Why?

TAMPA — There was hardly an espresso martini in sight.

Instead, on a Thursday evening in May, dozens of patrons wandered around a room inside the Tampa Edition’s Arts Club clutching long-stemmed martini glasses filled with just that — clear, classic martinis.

Some had olives; others had twists. But martinis were definitely the drink du jour.

In the corner of the room behind an elegant drink cart, a bartender held court, tipping back a copper cocktail shaker emblazoned with floral enamel while pouring from high above his head.
