NFL Legend Oddly Rips Tom Brady For Buccaneers Incident

Tom Brady played the last three seasons of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , leading them to a Super Bowl during the 2020-21 campaign with the help of wide receiver Antonio Brown.

Well, the following year, Brown ended up getting himself kicked off the team after a strange Week 17 incident against the New York Jets in which Brown took his shirt off and ran off the field. In the middle of the game, mind you.

There was just one week remaining in the regular season at that point, so Brown’s departure (if you can call it that) was kind of a big deal. After all, he had caught 42 passes for 545 yards and four touchdowns.

As a result, a slight void opened up at the receiver position for the Buccaneers from a depth perspective. Yes, Tampa Bay still had Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, but beyond those two, the absence of Brown left a somewhat significant question mark.

Apparently, former NFL wide out and Hall-of-Famer Terrell Owens tried to make his way on to the Buccaneers’ roster, but was ignored by Brady.

“Tom Brady ignored me,” Owens said during an appearance on the Bubba Dub Show ( h/t Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk ). “The year that AB went crazy. … They just needed somebody to fill some holes with AB leaving at the receiver position. I reached out to him through Randy [Moss] and some other people, just to come in and play third down and red zone situations. This dude ignored me. It just shows you the lack of respect there, but then when they get in front of you they want to act like they respect you.”

Terrell Owens last played in an NFL game in 2010

Here’s the thing: at the time Owens attempted to contact Brady, he was 48 years old and had not played in an NFL game in over a decade. As a matter of fact, Owens was cut by the Seattle Seahawks in training camp back in 2012.

So, why would Brady (or the Buccaneers) even consider entertaining the prospect of bringing him aboard, especially that late in the season?

Perhaps Owens kept himself in good shape, but again, he was near 50 years old, and there is a reason why the Seahawks released him almost 10 years earlier.

There is no question that Owens is one of the best receivers ever. Throughout his 15-year NFL career, he made six trips to the Pro Bowl and notched five First-Team All-Pro selections. He registered over 1,000 yards nine times and led the league in receiving touchdowns on three different occasions.

But that version of Owens was long gone in 2012; let alone in 2021.

This seems like more delusion on the part of Owens than it was some sort of disrespect from Tom Brady’s end.
