Report: Tristan Wirfs agrees to new 5-year, $140 million contract with Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs agreed to a new five-year, $140 million contract with the team, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Coming out of Iowa , Wirfs was considered a franchise tackle prospect. Safe to say, it’s worked out throughout the first phase of his career.

He’s now in Tampa long term.

“Sources: The #Bucs and All-Pro OT Tristan Wirfs have agreed to terms on a huge new contract to make him the one of highest-paid OTs. Wirfs is now locked in long-term,” Rapoport wrote on Twitter. “The deal includes $88M+ guaranteed.”

The Bucs drafted Wirfs with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was plugged in immediately as a starting tackle, helping Tom Brady and Tampa Bay win Super Bowl LV.

Wirfs is a three-time Pro Bowler and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2021 while being Second-Team in 2022.

He was a legend at Iowa as well. Wirfs was a First-Team All-American in 2019 and the Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year that same season.

As a member of the Class of 2017, Wirfs was a four-star recruit out of Mount Vernon (Iowa) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking , a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state, the No. 24 offensive tackle in the class and the No. 260 overall prospect in the class.

Wirfs is in charge of protecting Baker Mayfield in the the present day. The latter goes into his second year with the team after his own new contract was signed.

“I definitely am in the best shape I’ve been in a long time,” Mayfield said, via Adam Silvon of pewterreport.com . “I just found my routine, found a gym and some trainers that I really like and it’s important. You learn that throughout the process [and as] the years go on. Honestly being able to stay in one place throughout the offseason helps, too. I found some great people to help me get to this point.”

Last season, Mayfield threw for a career high 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 64.3% completion percentage.
