AMITE --- Political season has kicked off in Tangipahoa’s parish seat as qualifying came to a close Friday afternoon in Amite. In the Amite mayor’s race, there are now four candidates vying for the town’s top post. As of the close of qualifying Friday, incumbent Walter Daniels, III, faces challengers Ayana Buchanan, Damon Ellzey, and a surprise candidate, longtime Councilman Jonathan Foster, who on Friday qualified for a second time during the candidacy period—switching from running for re-election to his council seat to running for mayor.
