ALBANY, NY — The New York State Conference Mayors Executive Committee has appointed Olean Mayor William J. Aiello second vice president of the organization.

“I am honored to have been selected by my fellow mayors as the new second vice president of the New York State Conference of Mayors,” Aiello said. “Olean has long benefitted from NYCOM’s many legislative successes and its strong commitment to serving local officials throughout New York. I look forward to working with my fellow officers and our entire conference to bring positive change and to build upon NYCOM’s strong foundation of assisting cities and villages in their role as the government closest to the people.”

Aiello was elected mayor in 2013 and reelected in 2017 and 2021. He served on the Cattaraugus County Legislature from 2008 to 2013 and had a 32-year career with the Olean Police Department, retiring with the rank of captain.

“Mayor Aiello not only brings a wealth of experience, but his vision and his passion align perfectly with NYCOM’s mission,” NYCOM President and Albany Mayor Kathy M. Sheehan said. "Governments are on the frontlines of ensuring public safety and controlling property tax affordability. Having him in this important leadership position will strengthen our organization as we advocate on behalf of New York’s cities and villages.”
