HACKENSACK, NJ - Deputy Mayor Kathleen Canestrino provided an update on Teterboro Airport, noting the ongoing lack of progress on adopting an alternative flight path to reduce noise and pollution over residential areas.

"Despite our discussions, tangible changes have yet to be seen, and the community's quality of life continues to suffer," Canestrino said at a recent city council meeting.

Canestrino said discussions with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have included proposals to adjust the flight path near a radio station tower to address pilot visibility issues during evening hours, but these changes have not yet been implemented.

Residents continue to express concerns about the persistent noise and air pollution from the airport, affecting the quality of life in surrounding neighborhoods.

In February 2024, Canestrino highlighted discrepancies in aircraft weight regulations that could contribute to the excessive noise. She noted aircraft often exceed the airport's 100,000-pound weight limit when fully loaded, raising questions about enforcement and compliance with existing rules.

As discussions continue, the community and city leaders are calling for more decisive action from the FAA to implement the proposed flight path changes and ensure that Teterboro Airport operates within the agreed-upon regulations, thereby reducing its impact on the local environment and residents' quality of life.

"We will not stop until we see real change that restores peace to our community," Canestrino said.

The past week and a half I've sat here and watched 20 planes fly lower than I've ever seen over Little Ferry. That's not including the seven private helicopters that basically hovered across little very South Hackensack and landed at the airport. oh that is teterboro airport we're talking about. you know the really small one that has nothing to do with the local area
