EMERSON, NJ – Hasbrouck Heights boys tennis team won the 2024 Boys Cavo Cup on Saturday in Emerson.  The tournament has a unique format where six teams compete in a round robin-style tournament, where each team fielded four doubles teams (1st Singles/2nd Singles, First Doubles, Second Doubles and a pro/am team) and each team played every other team in a single set, with teams earning a point for each game won.

The pro-am team of JV coach Justin McCann and First Singles player Jordan Ghongpa went undefeated, as did the First Doubles team of Andre Baculio and Colin DeGuzman.

"It's such a fun tournament, especially at this time of year, as things heat up in the final league matches and state and county tournaments,” said Head Coach Suzanne Caines. “We played well, across the board and had a great time. Really, a perfect day of tennis for our team.”

It is the first half of a big weekend for Hasbrouck Heights boys tennis, which for the first time in school history will have three players in the Bergen County Invitational Semi-Finals in Old Tappan.  Ghongpa will be competing in the First Singles semi’s, as will the First Double team of Baculio and DeGuzman.

“Jordan had an incredible match at First Singles, upsetting the four-seed from Leonia, and we're excited to see him compete tomorrow,” Caines stated. “Our First Double team of Andre and Colin also won two matches last weekend to advance. They have a tough semi against Cresskill, but they're really playing well, so we're hoping it will be a competitive match.“

:Overall, we're just really pleased with the season we're having,” Caines said. “Our players are working hard and continue to improve each match. We have a lot of tennis in the next week and so, and we're just hoping to keep playing."
