    Spring Sports Seeds Have Blossomed For Nutley Teams; Flag Football Finishes Successful Season

    NUTLEY, NJ - The final post-season of the 2023-'24 scholastic year is poised to begin as the NJSIAA released the seeds for the upcoming tournaments in various sports that Nutley teams will participate in starting later this week. Here is a look: Baseball The Raiders (5-17) were seeded 14th for the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 tournament and will play at third-seeded North Hunterdon on Thursday, May 23. The sectional quarterfinal round is slated for Wednesday, May 29 at the home of the highest remaining team.
    Softball Nutley was seeded eighth and will play host to ninth-seeded Summit in the opening round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 3 bracket on Wednesday, May 22 at 4 p.m. A win there and the Lady Raiders (13-11) would play against top-seeded South Plainfield or 16th-seeded Payne Tech on Tuesday, May 28. Boys Volleyball The sixth-seeded Raiders, enjoying a 14-7 campaign so far, will host 11th-seeded West Milford in the opening round of the North Jersey, Group 2 tournament on Thursday, May 23. The sectional quarterfinals are set for May 29 with the semifinals slated for May 31. Boys Tennis Nutley, 7-2 in its last nine matches, was seeded eighth for the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 3 tournament and will host ninth-seeded Ramapo in a first round match on Thursday, May 23. A win there will have the Raiders (10-6) traveling to face top-seeded Tenafly in a sectional quarterfinal on May 29.
    Flag Football The Nutley High flag football did well to make it to the semifinal round of the Super Football Conference Flag Football Tournament. The Raiders, seeded eighth, bowed to top-seeded Ridgewood, 39-6, on Saturday, May 18 in Ridgewood. Earlier in the day, also at Ridgewood, Nutley edged ninth-seeded West Orange, 24-19, in the quarterfinal round. For the season, Nutley was led by quarterback Morgan Dolaghan, who passed for over 1,000 yards and threw for over 10 touchdowns. Cynthia DePersio ran for over 100 yards and made over 35 catches for over 300 yards and four touchdowns. Ellie Desantis (three interceptions, six pass deflections), Lindsey Guzman (four pass deflections, one interception) and Bryanna Martins (20 touches) keyed the defense. Nutley finished 7-4 overall and won the Liberty Division of the SFC with a 5-1 record.
