A Hero’s First Pitch: Jaxson Rand Takes the Mound

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – The community support continues in P’Burg as seven-year-old Jaxson Rand , affectionately known as #jaxsonstrong on social media, took the mound at Edison Field May 20, 2024 in Phillipsburg to throw the first pitch for the Steele Hill Bulldogs.

Coach David Markle asked us to stop by and capture more smiles, and outpouring of support for Jaxson.

Diagnosed with DIPG cancer, an aggressive and rare childhood cancer that forms in the brainstem, Jaxson's journey continues to bring people to their feet, opening their hearts and continuing to support this young man and his family.

As Jaxson stepped onto the field for a showdown of Bulldogs against Bulldogs, the crowd rose from their chairs with cheers and applause. His smile , you— may have read about it a few times—continues to show his spirit.

Given a custom Bulldogs team shirt, Jaxson stood tall today on the pitcher's mound, tossing the first pitch to his mother behind home plate.

The Bulldogs players, coaches, and fans were visibly moved, many wearing #jacksonstrong shirts with Jaxson's fight against cancer. For the bulldogs vs. the bulldogs, everyone was a winner today for teamwork and sportsmanship.
