NORTH CALDWELL, NJ -- Madilynn Boyce struck out 16 batters as Middletown North prevailed in an 11-inning softball duel over West Essex on Monday.

Boyce pitched a four-hitter and walked two batters for the Lions (19-5), and Gabby Walton singled in Adrianna Lisotto with the only run of the game.

Briana Gillen allowed eight hits, but no earned runs, struck out six and walked five in a strong pitching performance for West Essex (7-16), which almost pulled off a sizable upset.
