Major Potential: Holmdel applies for $3.5 million grant for Crawfords Corner Road traffic improvements by Holmdel Schools

HOLMDEL, NJ - An alignment on needed traffic improvements that impact thousands of drivers in Holmdel is potentially gaining ground - and funding.

Recently, the Holmdel Township Committee and its engineering department submitted a grant application to the state for $3.5 million.  The narrative from the engineer mirrors the plans created and funded by the Holmdel Board of Education professionals and submitted to the Township for consideration a couple of months ago.

Should the project be funded and completed, it would dramatically improve the roadway for police, fire, first aid, schools, commuters and everyday travelers. The Township Engineer, Bob Yuro, shared his work with the Holmdel Township Committee.

"We just filed for a (grant) classified as a Local Transportation Project Fund, and it's  for Crawford's Corner Rd., the length from Holmdel Road to South Holland. It's a $3.5 million grant that we are requesting that includes primarily milling and paving a portion of the road from Holmdel Road to the school property. Working to Crawfords Corner and road widening across the front of the school property, between the High School and the Satz School." Stated Yuro.

"Upgrades to the intersection of Longstreet and the High School driveway with the upgraded signal, dedicated left turning lanes, actuation etc. and then continuing the improvements down to South Holland Rd. So we prepared that and through the DOT through the SAGE portal. We submitted that about a week and a half ago. It will be under their review, goes through part of the state appropriations, and we will see what kind of grant we will be receiving from that, and then we can bundle that up with the local aid grant for Crawfords Corner that we did receive last year, which was in the amount of $288,000 for additional road work in that area." stated Yuro.

Mayor Impreveduto thanked Yuro. "Thank you, this is something that we mentioned in our State of Holmdel but also just a general...anyone who has gone on and seen the conditions of Crawfords Corner Road and the dramatic improvement needed there. Hopefully, alleviating the chokepoints we see around the school certainly around entrance and exit of the school times." stated Impreveduto.
