    Hasbrouck Heights Seniors Sign Commitment Letters to Continue Athletics in College

    Five Hasbrouck Heights High School seniors signed their commitment letter to continue their athletic and academics in the fall. They were joined by their families, coaches, teammates, and friends.

    HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -  Five Hasbrouck Heights High School seniors signed their commitment letter to continue their athletic and academics in the fall.

    The student-athletes were joined by Athletic Director Mike Scuilla, coaches, parents, teammates and classmates. The seniors, Alexandra Samperi (track), Elliot Eddy (track), Sophia Lara (soccer), Connor Scuilla (wrestling), and Joey Formisano (football), signed their paperwork and posed for photos with their families, teammates and friends.

    Alexandra Samperi will be attending Marist University and majoring in Psychology.

    "The campus was beautiful and felt like home. The coach was welcoming and made me feel like a part of the team the day I met him," said Samperi. "Hasbrouck Heights has helped me prepare for this next step by always giving me the best support academically and athletically."

    Sophia Lara will be attending Drew University, majoring in Biology with aspirations of attending medical school.

    "Drew is a beautiful school. I loved the environment and how friendly everyone was on campus. My Coach Christine was extremely welcoming and made me feel at home," she explained. "I also was extremely pleased with the emphasis they put on school work. Drew will allow me to have a great balance between school, soccer, and friends."

    "Heights has helped me so much throughout this difficult process. I feel I am prepared for college with the assistance of my teachers," she continued. "(Soccer Coach) Keller was also by my side the entire time and pushing me in practice to become the best player I could be. The teachers and staff were an amazing support system, and I am extremely grateful."

    Elliot Eddy heads to the United States Military Academy in West Point and will major in Legal Studies/Pre-Law.

    "When I went for my official visit, I, for the first time, felt like I was around people who have the same drive and work ethic as I do," she said. "It was my first visit where I felt at home at a school, and wanted to be a part of something bigger than myself."

    "John Valent (the Throws Coach of the Hasbrouck Heights track and field team) has worked with me since I was a freshman, and I couldn’t have done this without him," she noted. "He helped me to reach my full potential in the circle. Hasbrouck Heights, along with my parents, has helped me become the student and leader I am today."

    Connor Scuilla will attend The University at Buffalo with an intended major of Engineering.

    "I picked Buffalo because it was a school that offered a great wrestling program with great coaches and a very impressive wrestling facility," he said. "Buffalo is strong academically, which also appealed to me. Overall, Buffalo is the perfect fit for me."

    "Heights undoubtedly helped me prepare for college as a student-athlete.I want to thank my teachers but especially my coaches who were there for me every step of the way, pushing me to be the best version of myself and teaching me valuable lessons along the way," he continued. "I couldn’t be more grateful for the teaching staff and my coaches for preparing me for the challenges of college."

    Joey Formisano:will attend Susquehanna University as a Criminal Justice major.

    "When I visited Susquehanna, the campus, coaches and team just felt like a good fit," said Formisano. "It had a family feel and was comfortable, even though I knew it would challenge me as an athlete and student."

    "Growing up in Hasbrouck Heights, you learned about the importance of hard work in school and sports," he explained. "It’s important to challenge yourself. These are lessons I will apply as I move forward in life."
