    Lacrosse: NJSIAA North Jersey Group 4 Tournament Preview for the ‘Liners

    PHILLIPSBURG, NJ - The Phillipsburg High School girl’s lacrosse team is enjoying its best season since 2012 under first-year coach Charlize Smith and it will continue in the NJSIAA North Jersey Group 4 tournament.

    The Stateliners boys will also play in the state tournament. Here’s a look at their respective brackets.

    Girls

    The 12 th -seeded Stateliners (9-10) play at No. 5 seed Montclair (9-8) in a first-round matchup at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner plays either No. 4 Westfield (9-9) or No. 13 West Orange (12-7) in quarterfinals on May 30.

    Morristown (18-1) is the top-seeded team in the bracket, Ridgewood (12-7) is No. 2 and Hunterdon Central (17-2) is seeded third.

    The 2012 P’burg team, which finished the season with a 12-8 record, is also the last Stateliner team to win an NJSIAA tournament game, 13-10, over Somerville.

    Phillipsburg scoring leaders: Sr. MF Julia Butler (74 goals- 12 assists), Sr. MF Jill Miller (44-24), Jr. Sophia Remian (27-14), Jr. attacker Marissa Kozak (25-14), Sr. MF Avery Ritt (26-12), Sr. attacker Sarina Appezzato (15-7), Fr. MF Avery Butler (10-9).

    Top defenders: Sr. Ava Davey, Sr. Erica Davey, Sr. Avery Giamoni and Sr. Gianna Gonzalez.

    Goalie: So. Jordan Nonnemacher (199 saves, 213 goals allowed).

    Boys

    The Stateliner boy’s bring a 2-16 record into the tournament and are the No. 13-seed. They will play at No. 4 Montclair (8-8) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in a first-round contest. The winner plays either No. 5 Livingston (9-8) or No. 12 East Brunswick (8-10) in the quarterfinals on May 30.

    Ridgewood (13-3) is the top-seeded team in the North Jersey, Group 4 bracket, Westfield (9-5) is No. 2 and Bridgewater-Raritan (9-5) is seeded third.

    Phillipsburg scoring leaders: Jr. attacker Jimmy Donnelly (31 goals-13 assists), Sr. MF Cormac Flanagan (17-18), So. MF Ryan Evans (16-9), Sr. MF Patch Day (14-10), Sr. attacker Connor Johnson (15-5).

    Top defenders: So. D Alexie Moreira, So. short stick middle Aedan Hywell.

    Goalie: Jr. Logan Hummer (167 saves, 210 goals allowed).
