BARNEGAT - Sixth-seeded Barnegat defeated 11th-seeded Hopewell Valley 11-5 on Wednesday in the first round of the South Jersey Group 2 Girls Lacrosse tournament.

Barnegat will face third-seeded Manasquan on the road Thursday in the quarterfinals.

Alyson Sojak had an amazing afternoon, scoring six goals for Barnegat. Ella Tortorici scored three goals in the winning effort.

Lacey Maudin and Gianna Azzara scored twice for Hopewell Valley.
