Steinert Softball Claims Victory Over Lawrence in State Tournament

HAMILTON, NJ -- Mia Pope went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to lift Steinert to a 7-2 softball victory over Lawrence in the first round of the Central Jersey, Group 3 state tournament on Wednesday.

Francesca Castellano, Brooke DeWitt and Bianca Walsh each had two hits and two RBI for Steinert (19-5), which scored five runs in the fifth inning to open an 8-2 lead.

Ellie Miller struck out seven batters and walked none in four shutout innings. Katie Simonka also pitched well for Steinert, allowing two hits in three innings.

Third-seeded Steinert will host sixth-seeded Matawan in the quarterfinals next Tuesday.
