    SPRINGFIELD, NJ -- The Dayton softball team advanced in the first round of the Section 2, Group 2 state tournament with a 14-0 victory over Harrison on Wednesday.

    Allie Haughney hit a home run; Alyssa Santangelo clubbed a pair of doubles and scored two runs; Natalie Mignone, Alyssa Freitas and Angie Gatto each drove in two runs; and Julianna Santangelo had two hits and an RBI for Dayton (22-6).

    Lila Carroll pitched a five-inning one-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks.

    Top-seeded Dayton will host Rutherford in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday.

    Dayton's victory over Harrison was the third game for the Bulldogs in less than 48 hours. After beating Scotch Plains-Fanwood in the Union County Tournament championship game on Monday night, Dayton beat Immaculata, 15-2, on the road in a regular-season tuneup on Tuesday afternoon.
