    Chargers Boys Tennis Upset by Roselle Park in NJSIAA Central Jersey Group One Tournament

    SPOTSWOOD, NJ - It was a hard-fought match, but the fifth-seeded Spotswood High School boys tennis season ended on Wednesday with a 3-2 loss to 12 th seeded Roselle Park High School in the first round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group One Tournament. The Chargers' Corey Miller and the second doubles team of Kirelos Salib and Aidan Levy earned match points for Spotswood.

    The first round match between Spotswood and Roselle Park came down to the first doubles match between Kayden Turner and Matthew Pollard and Xavier Rodriguez and Isaiah Boyd. Turner and Pollard dominated the first set, 6-0, before dropping the second set to Rodriguez and Boyd, 6-4. Rodriguez and Boyd prevailed in the 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match, winning 10-8. The victory moved Roselle Park into the quarterfinal round against 13 th seeded Highland Park High School. Highland Park upset fourth-seeded Bound Brook High School, 3-2.

    Miller won his second singles match over Ivan Espinoza, (6-1, 6-2). The senior finished the season undefeated with 14 second singles victories and one at first singles. Salib and Levy won their second doubles match over Ethan Pama and Demetrios Barnat, (6-0, 7-6). Levy and Salib took the second set tiebreaker, 8-6.

    Liam Reimer won the first set of his first singles match with Shourya Chhabra, 6-2. Chhabra bounced back to take the second set, 6-3, forcing a 10-point tiebreaker to decide the match. Reimer lost the tiebreaker, 10-3. Kyle Chigas lost his third singles match to Steve Ramirez in straight sets, (6-3, 6-2).

    Spotswood finished the 2023-24 season with an 11-4 overall record. The Chargers won the Greater Middlesex Conference Gold Division title for the second straight season.
