    Westfield Public Schools Release HIB Self-Assessment Results for 2022-2023

    WESTFIELD, NJ — The Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB) Self-Assessment results are now available for all schools in the district, Superintendent Dr. Raymond González announced at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.

    During the announcement, Dr. González stated that this year’s reporting would take into account the preliminary investigation process of all HIB reported incidents. With this, each school is publicizing all investigated complaints that fall outside the scope of the HIB definition.

    In total, a school can give itself a score of up to 78. Each self-assessment is graded on HIB programs, Board of Education training, staff training, HIB personnel, school reporting procedure, school investigation procedure and overall reporting. According to the report , the district’s overall self-score came to a 70.

    Roosevelt Intermediate School received the highest self-assessment score of 74, while Washington Elementary School received the lowest score of 60.

    Thomas Edison Intermediate School had the highest number of cases that fall outside the scope of the HIB definition with a total of nine.

    According to the NJ Department of Education , school safety teams are required to complete a self-assessment form at the completion of the school year. Reporting for the 2022-2023 school year began June 21 and closed on October 21.

    Following ratification and public comment from the Board of Education, the commissioner of the state’s board of education will ratify the assessment.
