Softball: Holmdel Beats Bound Brook, 5-1, in State Tournament

BOUND BROOK, NJ -- The Holmdel softball team advanced in the first round of the Central Jersey, Group 2 state tournament with a 5-1 victory over Bound Brook on Wednesday.

Julia Henderson pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks in seven innings for the win.

Avery Lewandowski singled, drove in two runs and scored one for Holmdel (13-11), which broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the fifth inning. Molly Dasaro was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Emma Forsyth had a hit and an RBI in the win.

Holmdel, the 13th seed, will play at fifth-seeded Delran in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
