Softball: Middletown South Edges Freehold Borough, 2-1, in State Tournament

MIDDLETOWN, NJ -- Middletown South rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 2-1 softball victory over Freehold Borough in the first round of the Central Jersey, Group 3 state tournament on Wednesday.

Ella Mullane, who went 2-for-4, and Brooke Lisowski each drove in a run in the seventh-inning rally for Middletown South (12-8).

Winning pitcher Riley Smith threw a three-hitter with six strikeouts and four walks in seven innings.

Middletown South, the eighth seed, will play at top-seeded Robbinsville in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
