WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - Catherine E. Doyle School held a Principal for a Day fundraiser to coincide with Principal Appreciation Day on May 1. This year the winner was second-grader Joseph Colon.

“Even when not serving in the "principal" role, Joseph is a wonderful student who lights up the Doyle School,” said Doyle Principal Lara Schmitt. “Staff and his peers regularly commend him for his behavior and big heart, both of which helped him when serving in the principal role today.”

Colon served alongside Schmitt throughout the day. He patrolled the hallways, taking notes on things that needed improvement, helped prepare materials for the upcoming state assessment, distributed prizes and awards to students, and supervised the lunchroom to ensure that the student body was behaving appropriately, she explained.

"I liked when you (Schmitt) called me to the Main Office that day,” said Colon. “I really liked helping to organize things in the office.”

“Lunch time was fun because I got to walk around and watch all the kids.  I had to give them warnings to behave," he added.

“He was truly a huge help and certainly has a future in this line of work if he pursues it, but with his hard work, positive attitude, and strong moral compass, Joseph can be anything he wants to be one day,” Schmitt added. “It was a pleasure working with Mr. Colon.”
