Welcome back to another edition of the Red Bank Beat.

Can you believe it’s already Memorial Day Weekend? It seems like yesterday when I was just welcoming everyone to Spring!

In any event, we are at the unofficial start to Summer, and I hope everyone’s Summer is going to be amazing! In next week’s Beat we’ll be announcing a big Summer event that you’ll all be invited to attend, but mums the word until a week from today.

In the meantime, there is lots of stuff that I can tell you about, so let’s get to the program!

FIVE DIMES BREWERY OPENS FRIDAY ON MONMOUTH STREET!

At last year’s inaugural Oktoberfest event, we had tons of breweries from all over Monmouth County who attended and served up some of their original craft beers. We also had one other brewery from Bergen County, and we allowed them in because they told us that they would soon be investing here in Monmouth County.

As it turns out, they didn’t just invest in Monmouth County – they invested right here in Red Bank!

With that bit of background, I hope you’ll all welcome the good folks from Five Dimes Brewery from Westwood, New Jersey. Five Dimes is taking over that was formerly Red Tank Brewery, and we’re thrilled to have them here in our great downtown!

Their mission is to cultivate a local gathering spot for craft beer enthusiasts, families, and close friends, and it seems to me they’ll fit right in here in downtown Red Bank. If you’re wondering about their name, their first brewery is located in what used to be the L.N.Grand 5 & 10 Cent Store which operated in Westwood for 60 years. So going from a 5 & 10 to Five Dimes makes total sense!

You can purchase their original craft beers for consumption on the premises, and you can also bring in or order your own food from one of Red Bank’s great downtown restaurants. They also sell 16 ounce 4-packs to go!

Five Dimes officially opens on Friday from 12:00 Noon to 12:00 AM, with the Porch Pirates band playing live from 7:30 – 11:00 PM. On Saturday they open from 12 to 12 and on Sunday, they’re open from 12 to 10 PM with a live performance from performer Baird Stiles between 2 and 6 PM. On Monday, Memorial Day, they’ll be open from Noon – 6 PM.

For more information on their beers, visit their Instagram page . We wish them the very best of success in their new location, and we hope you’ll come by and visit them opening weekend!

BOOSKERDOO IS NOW A FULL SERVICE CAFÉ
One of the food establishments you may want to order from if you’re at Five Dimes is Booskerdoo in the Anderson Building. While we all know how great their coffees are, they have now become a full-service café, serving breakfast items like scones, muffins, breakfast sandwiches and bagels! Yes, bagels! They’ve also enlarged their space, so there’s more room for dining both inside the café and outside.

A full-service Booskerdoo is a big deal for our downtown – especially the West Side – so if you haven’t had a chance to try their food items, what are you waiting for? Head on over to 200 Monmouth Street and get yourself some of those yummy food items to go along with their sumptuous coffee!

LESLIE ODOM, JR. COMING TO THE BASIE

If you’ve ever seen Hamilton, or even listened to the original cast recording, you probably know how Leslie Odom, Jr. is. Odom’s breakout rule was playing Aaron Burr (sir) in the original cast, and he’s burst onto the scene since then!

He just starred in the new Broadway production of the classic American comedy Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch by the legendary Ossie Davis, which opened in September 2023 to widespread critical acclaim.

He’s also had great television and movie roles, including his brilliant starring role as Sam Cooke in One Night in Miami… He’s also one hell of a singer, and he’ll be singing for us here in Red Bank when he takes center stage at the Basie this Sunday, May 26 at 7:00 PM. You can purchase your tickets at the Basie box office or online here .

Leslie is an amazing performer and you won’t want to miss him!

That’s it for another Red Bank Beat. I’d like to take this opportunity to say how sorry I was to hear that we lost a true Red Bank icon, Danny Murphy of Danny’s Steakhouse and Sushi. I did get the opportunity to get to know Danny a little bit, and he was an all-around great guy who will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

The RiverCenter thanks Danny for his many years of dedication to our downtown and to Red Bank, and we send our sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

I wish you an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend, and I do hope you’ll join me in taking a moment this weekend to honor those who served our nation and are no longer with us.
