Pirro was born in Bronx, NY., signed up for the Army in September 1966 and did his advanced infantry training at Fort Hood, Texas. He spent one year in Vietnam, came back to the United States and then re-enlisted in the Army.

Pirro, who is retired, is a member of Roxbury Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2833. His story of military service will be told immediately following the parade at the Roxbury Veterans’ Memorial at Horseshoe Lake Park. The post-parade ceremony of remembrance will be presented by Post 2833 members.

The parade, hosted by both the VFW and the municipality, is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day, starting at the Meeker Street parking lot of the Lincoln-Roosevelt School. It will proceed south on Hillside Avenue to Main Street, go east along Main Street to Eyland Avenue, then go south along Eyland Avenue across Route 10 and into Horseshoe Lake Park, ending at the Veterans’ Memorial on the island. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.

Veterans, the mayor and members of the Roxbury Township Council, members of Roxbury’s three fire companies, police officers, Scouts, community groups, sports teams, the Rory O’Moore School of Pipes and Drums and Roxbury High School’s Marching Gaels will participate in the parade.

Roxbury High School’s Classic Sounds Honors Choir section leaders will sing the National Anthem and “America The Beautiful” at the ceremony along with an Honors Wind Symphony trumpet player performing “Taps.”

The parade organizers are inviting everyone to join them in honoring Pirro, fellow veterans "and the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country" by gathering along the parade route.

The public is also invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony at the Veterans’ Memorial that immediately follows the parade. If the parade is canceled due to rain, the 11 a.m. ceremony will still be held at the covered picnic pavilion on the island at Horseshoe Lake, 72 Eyland Ave., Succasunna.

Please plan for road closures and detours along the parade route. For more information, go to www.roxburynj.us/memorialday or contact Parade Committee Member Michele O’Halloran by emailing ohalloranm@roxburynj.us or calling 973-448-2002.
