SUMMIT, NJ -- Summit High School students will stage local performances on June 1 of the Broadway hit Urinetown, the Musical before they take it overseas to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Scotland later this summer.

Under the direction of Summit High School’s Theatre Director Anne Poyner, 32 students will stage this production four times during the first week of August at Edinburgh’s historic Central Hall Auditorium during the city’s annual Fringe Fest, which is the largest performing arts festival in the world. While there, the cast and crew will also have the opportunity to view some of the 1,000+ shows staged all over the city by performers hailing from around the globe.

Set in a gritty, dystopian city during a decades-long drought, Urinetown, the Musical depicts a world where, in the name of water conservation, private bathrooms have been outlawed and residents must pay to use public restrooms. Humor and satire abound in this clever production that comments on heavy topics like global warming, wealth disparity, and corporate greed, while also featuring a love story at its heart. The hit Broadway production of Urinetown, the Musical was nominated for ten Tony awards and won three.

Summit will offer two performances, on Saturday, June 1st, at 2 p.m. and at 7 p.m. in the Summit High School auditorium. Tickets are $10 and can only be purchased at the door. All proceeds will help fund the students’ trip to perform Urinetown, the Musical at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August.
