Coming Soon: A Road Named in Honor of Roxbury's Charlie Alpaugh

ROXBURY, NJ - Charles Alpaugh, an Army veteran and an icon of the Roxbury Fire Department who died last year at 86, will be honored next month with the installation of a street sign bearing his name.

The "street blade" will be installed in front of Alpaugh's home on West Circuit Drive in Succasunna and the site will be the scene of a ceremony on June 2 at 10 a.m., said Roxbury Mayor Jaki Albrecht.

The township has installed similar signs at intersections near homes of others who gave many years of service to Roxbury or who were Roxbury natives killed in action. They include Sam Wilson , Lou Bizzari , James Ohlinger and Hugh Mooney .

"If anybody deserves it, it's Charlie Alpaugh," said Roxbury Councilman Bob DeFillippo at the May 21 Roxbury Township Council meeting.

Alpaugh, a 1954 graduate of Roxbury High School, remained a member of Roxbury Company 1 Fire and EMS until he died, having become a member 65 years beforehand.
