    Franklin Township: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued

    Mount Holly, NJ — The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 5:43 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, which is in effect until 6:30 p.m. EDT.

    The affected areas include Hunterdon County, southwestern Morris County, and Somerset County in New Jersey, along with north central Bucks County in Pennsylvania.

    Residents in the impacted regions, including New Brunswick, Somerville, Somerset, Bridgewater, Middlesex, Bound Brook, Manville, Bedminster, Mendham, Flemington, Tinicum, High Bridge, Clinton, Peapack And Gladstone, Glen Gardner, Ferndale, Frenchtown, Lebanon, Milford, and Califon, are advised to take immediate precautions.

    Wind gusts of up to 70 mph and quarter-sized hail are possible according to the alert.

    The storm could cause minor damage to vehicles and considerable damage to trees. Mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings are also at risk of wind damage. The warning includes Interstate 78 in New Jersey between mile markers 10 and 35, and Interstate 287 in New Jersey between mile markers 11 and 26.

    For protection, residents are urged to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. In addition to large hail and damaging winds, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Anyone who can hear thunder is close enough to be struck by lightning and should move indoors immediately.
