    Scotch Plains-Fanwood 12U Raiders Future Team Completes Historic Season with Amazing Run at Cooperstown

    The SPF 12U Raiders Future Team finished 5-2 in Cooperstown, NY ournament.

    COOPERSTOWN, NY -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood 12U Raiders Future Team made it through states and went 3-2 in Regionals in late July. However, the true culmination of the year was spending a week in Cooperstown, NY at All Star Village battling 71 teams from across the country.

    The Cooperstown week started with check-in and bunk assignments on Thursday, July 25, but the day's highlight was the opening ceremony parade, followed by the skill competitions that saw the Raiders finish 3rd in the Outfield Relay Throw and come in towards the top of the bracket in the Double Play skills competition.

    Friday
    The first game on Friday was a 22-4 drubbing of ZT Fogball from California. Marco Barretta led the charge with two home runs and six RBI. The team pounded out 20 hits, which included an additional three hits by Will Sacchetti and home runs by Will Sacchetti, Brayden Bates, and Lucas Blake. Austin Briamonte kept things cool on the mound with two hitless innings pitched.

    The afternoon game was a 6-1 win against Juggernauts with Lucas Blake going 2-2 and Cooper Simo going 2-3. Colin Craig pitched three scoreless innings.

    Saturday
    The Radiers took a loss on Saturday morning to Canes East out of Raleigh, NC. Declan Bastable, Anthony Minyetty and Austin Briamonte each had a home run in the losing effort.

    Saturday afternoon saw SPF return to its winning ways against Villa Park from Illinois. Declan Bastable, Anthony Kriznauski, and Cooper Simo each hit a home run while Brayden Bates kept things steady on the mound, pitching four innings of 2-run ball.

    Sunday
    The Raiders team then faced Mayhem out of Long Island and won 9-8 on Sunday morning, with home runs by Lucas Blake and Anthony Minyetty. Brendan Klotz, who had been steady at the plate all week, came in to preserve the win in the 6 th with a perfect inning.

    The Sunday afternoon game against Pelham was a 6-2 win with Joey Llano, Colin Craig, and Lucas Blake powering the offense and Brayden Bates throwing 4.2 innings for the win. Declan Bastable pitched four innings of one-hit ball.

    The team finished 13 th overall in pool play and as the #1 non-club team out of 71. Their playoff game was set for Tuesday morning against the Wolfpack. The Wolfpack roared out to a 16-3 lead, but the Raiders made a furious comeback that included home runs by Marco Barretta and Cooper Simo. The team finished Cooperstown with a 5-2 record and memories of the week to last a lifetime. For the season, the team finished with a 39-12 record.

    To get to Cooperstown, the 12U Futures families raised funds for player registration through various fundraisers including a night at a Somerset Patriots Game, a Buffalo Wild Wings night, and more. It was a collective effort, and they were able to achieve their fundraising goals.The SPF 12U Raiders Future Team would like to thank their sponsors: GRIT Performance (Berkeley Heights), STAR Contracting (Garwood), Alain Junguenet Wines (Westfield), and Edison Heating and Cooling.
