WEST ORANGE, NJ -- During the August 15 West Orange school transportation app meeting at the high school, presenters reviewed some procedures.

PTA leader Tez Roro shared some information dispensed at the meeting. "Use the transportation@westorange.org email if you have questions. For a quicker response, leave a voice message in the general mailbox, not Greg's. The number is (973) 669-5357."

Roro also provided these general rules:

    • Pre-K to third grade students must have an adult or older sibling pick them up and a request for permission has to be sent to the principal and the transportation department to ensure the request is aligned with custody plans.
    • There will be no stops at dead-end streets/cul-de-sacs in the coming year.
    • Daycare drop off/aftercare drop off at another location can be requested, and if en route, may be granted.
    • The last bus has zones rather than stops, so it's generally a longer walk for students.
    • A three-point harness seat belt is required for buses built after 2019.
    • Drivers are trained in administrating help for seizers, diabetes etc. Please inform your driver if your student has any medical issues that might affect them on the bus.
    • Recording of school buses is illegal in NJ.
    • Boarding a bus as a parent is illegal, as it's considered trespassing of school grounds.
    • Kindergarten and older students are expected to buckle their own seats but can get help if needed.
    • Pre-K and special needs buses have aides.

Roro advised, 'Download the My Ride K-12 app (scroll down to links). As of this writing, the data hasn’t been turned on, so you may not see your kids' schedules/data. You can find the student ID# on Linc lunch app/site, standardized test reports or by emailing your school administrator."

There will be another information session on Aug. 22.
