READINGTON TOWNSHIP – Local committeeman looked in the couch cushions and found over $250,000 for capital projects, as they unanimously voted to reappropriate the proceeds of past lending and move some fund balances to benefit the rescue squad and police, and those who visit and work in the township building.

The $251,080.67 includes $99,669.85 in bond and bond anticipation proceeds, as well as $146,899.85 in capital improvement funds and $4,511.61 from the township’s capital fund balance.

“The purposes would be, if it’s approved, the acquisition of a response utility vehicle for Whitehouse Rescue, bulletproof vests for the police department and some contribution toward the repair of our HVAC system,” said township administrator Rich Sheola.

Sheola said the amount is less than the committee had originally discussed because the municipality is holding back some funds for the repair of a fire truck. He added that after meeting with bond counsel, there is a chance more unused proceeds or fund balances might be uncovered.

A public hearing on the re-appropriation is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. Interested parties can access the hearing by Internet or by dialing in via telephone.
