WARRINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA—Warrington police are looking for a black Mercedes-Benz they say is the latest in a string of thefts of mail from residents’ mailboxes.

Police said that on the morning of Aug. 9, a resident on Fawn Lane placed an envelope containing a check in her mailbox. A few hours later, she discovered that the envelope had been stolen from her mailbox.

After reviewing surveillance video, police found that shortly after 11 a.m., a black Mercedes-Benz C300 was involved in the theft. Police are looking for information about the car, which is pictured above. Anyone with information is asked to contact Warrington police at 215-343-3311.

Mail theft is nothing new, but there have been other incidents in the news recently. Earlier this month, for example, Solebury Township police reported multiple thefts of mail from homeowners’ mailboxes. In one of those cases, thieves changed the information on a check (called “check washing”) to change the recipient and the dollar amount.

Solebury police discouraged residents from putting outgoing mail in their mailboxes. They noted that thieves often look for raised flags on mailboxes to know which mailboxes have outgoing mail.
