DOYLESTOWN, PA—The Doylestown Township Police Department hired two new officers and saw the contract for its new chief approved at Tuesday night’s meeting of the township’s Board of Supervisors.

The supervisors approved a contract making Lt. Charles Zeigler the new chief of police effective Oct. 5, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2026. Zeigler will replace Chief Dean Logan, who is retiring after more than 35 years on the force and 12 years as chief.

At their March 2024 meeting, the supervisors announced that they intended to promote Zeigler to chief, so the contract approval wasn’t a surprise. Zeigler has served on the Doylestown police force since 2023, when he started as a patrol officer. He was named lieutenant in 2020. (For more on Zeigler’s appointment, see previous TAPinto Doylestown coverage.)

At Tuesday night’s meeting, Zeigler introduced two new officers for the supervisors’ approval:

Desiree Freitag, who went to high school in Philadelphia, earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and chemistry before graduating from the Philadelphia Police Academy in 2013. Freitag comes to Doylestown from the Philadelphia Police Department and lives in Northampton Township.

Steven Johnson grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from the Temple University Police Academy in October of 2022. Ziegler said that Johnson is a certified EMT and comes to Doylestown from the New Hope Borough Police Department.
