    Five Police Officers Promoted, One New Officer Sworn in at Twp Committee Meeting

    MONTVILLE, NJ – The Montville Township Committee met on Aug. 20, and Mayor Matt Kayne performed swearing-in ceremonies for five police officers who had been promoted, and the initiation of one patrol officer onto the force.

    Captain Adam Kenny has been a resident of Montville Township since 1985 and graduated from Morris Catholic High School in 1997.  In 2003, he graduated from the 62nd class of the Morris County Police Academy and was assigned to the Protective Services Division of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.

    In December of 2004, he joined the Montville Township Police Department and served in the patrol division until he was reassigned to the Detective Bureau in 2016.  He was promoted to sergeant in 2017 and two years later, became the Traffic Bureau supervisor.  He was promoted to lieutenant of Squad Four in 2020 and was placed in charge of the Detective and Traffic Bureau in 2023.

    Captain Kenny recently graduated from the West Point Command and Leadership Academy, earning the Chief Harry Wilde Award for Academic Achievement.  He is an accreditation manager, a certified advanced crash investigator, field training officer, firearms instructor, and public safety academy instructor.

    He is also a member of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Task Force and a Deputy Office of Emergency Management Coordinator for the township.

    Captain Kenny has received multiple awards and citations through his 21 years of service including: two Lifesaving Awards and two Honorable Service Awards, among others.

    Lt. Thomas Mooney

    Lt. Mooney was hired in July 2000, graduated from the Morris County Police Academy in December 2000, and assigned to the Patrol Division.

    He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2018 and served as a patrol sergeant. In January of 2022, Sergeant Mooney was assigned to the Detective Bureau.

    He is currently assigned to oversee the Detective and Traffic Bureaus.

    He is a firearms instructor for the Police Department and for the Morris County Police Academy and has served as team leader for our department’s SWAT team.

    He served as president for eight years and vice president for two years of PBA Local #140.

    Lieutenant Robert Szczur

    Lieutenant Robert Szczur was raised in Garfield, NJ.  While living there, he attended Paramus Catholic High School. When his family moved to the township in 2002, Szczur transferred to Montville Township High School. He graduated from there in 2003. Robert then attended Seton Hall University and graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and psychology.

    He was hired by the Montville Township Police Department in 2009 and attended the 79th Basic Police Class at the Morris County Police Academy. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the patrol division. He was promoted to sergeant in January, 2019. He is currently assigned as the shift commander of Squad 3.

    Sergeant Sam Greendyk

    Sam Greendyk joined the Montville Township Police Department in 2015 and has been assigned to the patrol division for his entire career.

    He is a field training officer, firearms instructor, armorer, and a member of the department's motorcycle unit. He is also an emergency medical technician and a CPR and first aid instructor.

    He has received an exceptional duty award, Mothers Against Drunk Driving award, and an honorable service award.

    Sergeant Greendyk is currently assigned as a patrol sergeant.

    Sergeant Daniel Saldutti

    Born in Tucson, Arizona, but raised in Boonton, Sergeant Daniel Saldutti served with distinction in the Marine Corps from 2000 to 2006, earning the rank of sergeant and proudly fighting for his country in Iraq in 2004.

    After his military service, he graduated from Kean University with a degree in mathematics.

    In 2014, Daniel joined the Montville Police Department as a patrolman, earning a special honor for apprehending a kidnapping suspect and rescuing a victim during a crime in progress.

    Although Sergeant Saldutti valued his time as a detective and school resource officer (SRO), including the relationships he built with students, parents, school administration, and community members, Daniel never lost sight of his dream to advance within the department.

    Patrolman Kevin Pineda

    Kevin Pineda comes from a Colombian family, and is fluent in Spanish, which has proven to be an asset in community policing and communication.

    He graduated from Dover High School in 2015 and is a proud graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminology.

    Prior to joining the department, Kevin served as a dispatcher at the Morris County Communication Center, where he was recognized with two lifesaving awards for his exceptional service.

    After three years of working at the comm. center, he enrolled himself as an alternate route candidate at the Morris County Police Academy. Kevin was then hired by the Montville Township Police Academy in May, prior to graduating from the police academy.
