    Morris School District Receives Over $250K in Grants from the Morris Educational Foundation

    Morristown, NJ – As families and teachers alike prepare for the upcoming school year, the Morris Educational Foundation (MEF), has awarded $255,000 in grants and programs to the Morris School District in the 2023-2024 school year.

    The MEF, a non-profit organization enhancing excellence in education in the Morris School District, worked in partnership with the District to provide funding and in-kind donations for a variety of academic, enrichment, and social-emotional wellness initiatives not covered by the school budget or tax dollars.

    The MEF funded the following areas;

    • Athletics: $72,000
    • Arts $60,000
    • Literacy $38,000
    • Social/Emotional $22,000
    • STEM $38,000
    • Staff Professional Development: $25,000.

    Staff-requested resources and services were awarded along with donor-designated grants to enrich the curriculum, promote self-esteem, enhance and inspire enrichment opportunities as well as provide parent support. Awarding these grants helps ensure the highest level of educational innovation supporting the schools and the community in a partnership of lifelong learning.

    “The MEF strives to meet the Morris School District students’ needs throughout their educational journey from Pre-K through high school,” said Ann Rhines, Morris Educational Foundation grants chair and former teacher and member of the Morris School District Board of Education. “Thanks to generous donor support and community partners, the MEF was able to provide resources to fund a variety of programs and experiences both inside and outside the classroom.  As the new school year begins, we look forward to supporting more opportunities to help our District community learn, grow, and thrive.”

    Thirty-one grants were awarded throughout the course of the 2023-2024 school year supporting the academic pursuits of all 5,700 students in all ten schools. Fields of study and enrichment varied, which is shown in the following sample of grants:

    Cultural Arts Annual Funding

    Grants to all ten Morris School District schools to support cultural arts programming to encourage the exploration of creativity.

    5th Grade Author Visit

    Funding from a private donor to support an author talk and visit from New York Times bestselling author, Wendy Mass. All 5th-grade students attended the assembly and received a signed copy of the book, “BOB,” which they read in class.

    Mosaic Project

    The FMS eighth-grade class created the class of 2024 Mosaic Legacy Project where students learned about the mosaic process and the planned design to create an inspiring piece that captures the spirit of the FMS house community.

    Athletic Gallery of Honor

    Renovation of the Athletic Gallery of Honor hallway at Morristown High School (MHS) that features vinyl wallcoverings, new lighted display cases, and reframed images capturing the history and success of the MHS student-athlete. The decade-long vision became a reality thanks to a leadership gift from the Goryeb family and donations from alumni and families.
