OLEAN, NY — Why is popular ESPN personality Seth Greenberg taking time out of his busy schedule to speak in Olean at the American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer 716 Golf Classic on Monday?

“There isn't a person that I know who hasn't been impacted by cancer,” he told TAPinto Greater Olean. “If you can use your position to help raise money, raise awareness, help educate people on the battle against cancer, then I think it is a responsibility.”

Another reason Greenberg is coming to small Western New York city is St. Bonaventure men’s basketball coach Mark Schmidt

“I have so much respect for him, the program he's built and how he's how he's built it, the person he is, his character, his understanding of doing things the right way and how genuine he is,” Greenberg said. “It’s hard to say no to him.”

The Coaches vs. Cancer 716 Golf Classic will take place at Bartlett Country Club, 32 Euclid Ave., on Sunday and Monday. Money raised will support cancer research funded by the American Cancer Society in Western New York.

The event will begin with an awards reception on Sunday, starting at 6 p.m. Cutco CEO Jim Stitt Jr, and his wife Susanna will receive the Jim & Kathy Satalin Inspiration Award for their contributions to the American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer program.

Satalin will receive the Bob Lanier Impact Award for the impact he has made in the community throughout his career on and off the basketball court.

The following morning, NCAA coaches from across the region will join media, donors and others for a golf tournament, followed by a special post-golf reception which will feature Greenberg, who was a two-time ACC Coach of the Year before he became an analyst.

Greenberg said he expects to poke some fun at Schmidt and the other coaches when he speaks Monday.

“I'm going to have fun with the coaches,” he said. “I have so much respect for them; I've coached against a lot of a lot of them.”

But he also will sound a serious tone about Coaches versus Cancer and the importance of raising money for research.

“That will be a big part of it because we've all been impacted by cancer,” he said.

Reception tickets are available at http://CVC716.Givesmart.com . The event will include a silent auction of sports memorabilia and collectibles. Items available at the auction may be viewed at https://e.givesmart.com/events/Atl/i/ .
