Doylestown Hospital Receives Award for Efforts to Promote Organ Donation

DOYLESTOWN, PA—A state group has given Doylestown Hospital a platinum award to recognize its efforts to encourage patients to donate their organs, eyes and tissues.

The award came from the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) to recognize Doylestown’s efforts during National Donate Life Month in April. During that month, hospitals are encouraged to increase donations of organs. HAP worked with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the two organ procurement organizations that work in the state for this year’s efforts.

Doylestown Hospital was one of 118 hospitals in Pennsylvania that participated in this year’s efforts. It encouraged organ donation through staff training, campaigns to register new organ donors and community events.

“Our Doylestown Hospital associates and medical staff have seen first-hand the impact of organ donation,” Doylestown Health President and CEO Jim Brexler said in a statement. “More than 6,500 Pennsylvanians need a life-saving organ transplant, and one donor can save up to eight lives and enhance up to 75 others.”
