Bloomfield Police Launch 'Cops in Crosswalks' Initiative

BLOOMFIELD, NJ-- To enhance public awareness of pedestrian safety and minimize injuries and fatalities, the Bloomfield Police Department will intensify enforcement against drivers who fail to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.

The "Cops in Crosswalks" initiative will be implemented across the township. Undercover officers will act as pedestrians in crosswalks, and any driver observed not stopping will be reported to their colleagues in nearby patrol cars for a traffic stop.

With the new school year underway, the "Cops in Crosswalks" campaign will place extra emphasis on unsafe driving in school zones throughout the community.
