Newton School 2024-2025 School Calendar

NEWTON, NJ – The 2024-2025 school calendar includes vacation days, early dismissals and delayed openings.  The district must provide 180 days of instruction with each day required to have four hours of instruction time.

The Newton calendar provides for 184 student days and 188 days for staff. This includes four emergency closure days.

The calendar may change, at the discretion of the board of education.  If the four emergency closure days are not needed they will be subtracted from the end of the year, June 19.

If additional days are needed, they will be subtracted from Spring Recess beginning with Friday, April 18, then Friday, April 25, Thursday April 24, Wednesday April 23, Tuesday April 22 and Monday April 21.

This year, the expectation is for the school year to end prior to Juneteenth.

Halsted Middle School conferences are scheduled for December 4 early dismissal, December 5, March 18  early dismissal and March 19.

Early dismissal days are scheduled Merriam Avenue School to accommodate conferences on October 24 and March 20.

• September 5 and 6: early dismissal
• October 14: Columbus Day
• November 7 and 8: NJEA convention
• November 27: early dismissal
• November 28 and 29: Thanksgiving
• December 23 to 31: Winter Recess
• January 1: New Year’s Day
• January 20: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
• February 17: Presidents' Day
• March 7: Early Dismissal (staff in service)
• April 17: Early Dismissal (staff in service)
• April 18 to 25: Spring Recess
• May 26: Memorial Day
• June 19: tentative last day and high school graduation
