PLAINFIELD, NJ — The Somerset Patriots are joining forces with the City of Plainfield and the Queen City Film Festival for an event, the second in as many years, celebrating the Negro Leagues on Friday, August 30.

The Patriots—who are the minor league affiliate for the New York Yankees—will take on the visiting Reading Fightin Phils as the "New York Black Yankees" to commemorate the Negro League team that played from 1932 until 1948. The game will begin at 6:35pm, after a commemorative pregame celebration at 5:45pm. Buy your tickets to sit in the Love Plainfield section here .

A portion of these tickets will be donated to the Queen City Film Festival and its youth training program, the Film Future Club, an after-school program dedicated to providing free film and television production training to underserved students and communities.

The baseball game will continue promoting the program called The Nine launched by MLB last year, as part of the organization's commitment to honor the noble history of the Negro Leagues. The ball game will be followed by free fireworks.

Earlier this month, the Queen City Film Festival joined forces with the Somerset Patriots for the duo's second ScreenTalk film screening and discussion with Academy Award Nominated Director Sam Pollard. Read TAPinto Plainfield 's coverage of that event here .
