MONTCLAIR, NJ - According to Montclair Police officials, residents of Hilltop Place and Wayside Place experienced a series of attempted burglaries.

In the early hours, a homeowner on Wayside Place told police that he was awakened by an alert on his cellphone, signaling movement in his backyard. Upon checking his surveillance cameras, he observed three individuals dressed in all-black clothing, gloves, and ski masks. The intruders, who were equipped with burglary tools, were spotted near the back door of the property.

The homeowner then triggered an audible alarm, which caused the suspects to flee. Surveillance footage revealed at least two males attempted to enter the front door, while a third suspect picked up a large stone before walking away. Police revealed that the suspects were unable to gain entry and were last seen fleeing in a white SUV (possibly a BMW).

Police said, "Almost simultaneously, the owners of a Hilltop Place residence reported being woken up by a large crash." The homeowners then discovered that their front glass door had been shattered and a male suspect was seen attempting to enter the home. The homeowners started yelling at the intruder, which caused the suspect to flee to an awaiting white SUV, thus matching the description of the vehicle seen at the Wayside Place incident.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the stone used to shatter the door at the Hilltop Place residence was taken from the property on Wayside Place.

Montclair is a nice community but still is Essex County and relatively close to crime ridden spots. You still have to lock up and have some home security. Don’t ever feel too safe.
