    Man Arrested for Road Rage Incident Involving Racial Slurs and Threats in New Providence

    NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - On August 26, 2024, at approximately 6:05 PM, a Piscataway resident reported a road rage incident on Mountain Avenue near Diamond Hill Road in New Providence. The victim, who was traveling on an electric scooter, stated that a motorist began making offensive hand gestures and shouting racial slurs at him. According to the victim, the suspect followed him into a parking lot off Diamond Hill Road, where the situation escalated.

    The victim reported that the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Thomas Reilly of Dunellen, exited his vehicle holding an object that appeared to be a weapon. Reilly allegedly continued to threaten the victim while shouting racial slurs.

    Following an investigation by the New Providence Police Department, with assistance from the Dunellen Police Department, Thomas Reilly was identified and arrested. He has been charged with terroristic threats and is currently in custody, awaiting transfer to the Union County Jail. The incident remains under investigation by the New Providence Detective Bureau, and Reilly is pending a court date in Union County Superior Court.
