DENVILLE, NJ - Bear activity has increased in Denville Township, says the Denville Police Department.

The Denville Police Department says that to limit bear activity in your area, garbage cans should be stored away from your house and put out only on pickup day. Cans should also be kept clean and covered.

The Denville Police Department issued several other tips including:

    • Removing bird feeders until November
    • Pick up and remove acorns often, as they are a large source of a bear’s diet
    • Clean grills after use
    • If you see a bear, remain calm and stay away
    • Keep dogs on a leash while walking them
    • If possible, install motion lights in your yards
