SAYREVILLE, NJ -- Mark Poore's debut as head coach of Sayreville HS football did not go as intended, with the Bombers losing their home-opener to Colonia 14-13 on Thursday, Aug. 29.

The first drive of the game for Sayreville ended with an interception from Colonia senior Nygel Hill which then resulted in the first points of the game; a rushing touchdown from Colonia sophomore Kyle Bell.

Sayreville didn't respond until senior Devin Krass scored a rushing touchdown of his own in the third quarter to even the game at 7-7. The Bombers would then take the lead with a 40-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Nunez to receiver Keshava Sadowski. A missed PAT would result in a 13-7 Sayreville lead going into the fourth quarter.

Colonia was able to capitalize on the missed PAT from Sayreville with a rushing touchdown from quarterback Cylan Chiera which, including a successful one-point kick after the touchdown, would win the game for Colonia.

"You guys played with a lot of heart, and you never quit, and that's what Bombers football is all about," said Sayreville head coach Mark Poore to his players after the game. "Just gotta get back to the drawing board and move forward."

Sayreville will look for their first win of the season in their next game at Linden on Saturday, Sept. 7.
