    Bayshore mourning lifelong Hazlet resident, Keyport Police Officer Lt. Gregory Johnson, died suddenly while on vacation with family.

    Bayshore mourning lifelong Hazlet resident, Keyport Police Officer Lt. Gregory Johnson, died suddenly while on vacation with family.

    HAZLET/KEYPORT:  Many in the Bayshore community are in mourning with the sad news that Gregory W. Johnson, 50, a lifelong resident of Hazlet, passed away suddenly on Monday, while on vacation in Cape May, with his family. Johnson was a Keyport Police Officer.

    According to his obituary, Johnson, a 1992 graduate of Raritan High School, served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1995 until 1999.   He graduated from Hodges University, Ft. Myers, Florida in 2003, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.  Greg worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Florida.  In 2007 Greg graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy and began his career with the Keyport Police Department. Through Greg’s dedication he made the rank of Lieutenant.  The Keyport Police Department released this statement on social media:

    "On behalf of the Keyport Police Department, we want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has reached out during his difficult time following the unexpected passing of our brother, Lt. Gregory Johnson. Services for Lt. Johnson will be held on Friday, August 30th, at Shore Point Funeral Home in Hazlet, with viewings from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. The funeral will take place on Saturday, August 31st, at 10 AM at St. Benedict’s Church.vA special thank you to all the surrounding towns for their support and assistance. Your kindness and solidarity mean more than words can express."
