RAHWAY, NJ — Now, don't tell the teachers and students, but summer may officially be over, as the Rahway varsity football team commenced its season on Thursday with a big win over Voorhees. The Indians took on the Vikings at home, on the turf in Rahway River Park, securing a solid 41-14 victory in front of a considerable, enthusiastic crowd.
In the first quarter, junior Synceir Touissant caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Rahway's quarterback, sophomore Jaquan Robinson. Only minutes later, junior Andrew Avent followed this up with a one-yard touchdown run.
The Vikings responded with a touchdown pass of their own, cutting the lead to 13-7 by the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Avent scored again, on a ten-yard run.
A big sack by sophomore Jaylen Eastman in the third quarter set up Avent (man, the guy likes to score!) to grab the fumble and run it in for 15 yards.
The Indians started the fourth quarter up 28-14 but decided to take out a bit of insurance anyway. They scored two more times, on a 21-yard reception by senior Dmitri Dulorie and a 1-yard run by sophomore Jyvon Cooper.
